We started the day by taking a bumpy dirt road into the middle of nowhere to reach the Lava River Cave. When we got there, we discovered that there were no bathrooms, and we also discovered mom is not a nature buff when restrooms aren't available. :)

The entrance was super steep and icy, so mom couldn't go in. :(
Once you were inside it was pitch black and the chambers were huge.
Good thing we stopped at the visitors center in Flagstaff where they told us to get flashlights.
We then went to the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument.
I decided to work on my Junior Ranger badge.
As part of that, we walked the lava flow trail.
Mom seemed to like all the cool dead trees.

Next it was on the to the Wupatki National Monument.
